Éire Dhúchasach is proud to announce the on-line availability of two projects completed in early 2026: the short book Laochra Ag Fanacht – Warriors in Waiting and the Liban Oracle Cards.
LAOCHRA AG FANACHT – After its launch in summer 2026 in Derry City and in Donegal’s Gaeltacht and focussing on the ideas of ancestral connection and nature’s power to restore, Laochra ag Fanacht – Warriors in Waiting is a short dual-language (Irish/English) book of narrative poetry written by Lorcan MacGiolla Bhrighde. The book explores the roots of indigeneity in Ireland, with a specially commissioned illustration by artist Jessica Klier and translated into Gaeilge/Irish by Aodh MacGairbheá. This book is designed to help you reflect on the ancient origins of the people on the island of Ireland in a creative way and inspire a response from the reader in potentialities for the future.
LIBAN ORACLE CARDS – Héilín NicÉnrí spent 12 months with a small group of girls and young women in the North West of Ireland actively exploring the hidden myth of a mermaid called Liban. As they investigated the ecologically important River Bann in mid-Ulster (which drains Ireland/UK’s largest freshwater lake,Lough Neagh), the young artists made art-work based on the natural elements that live in the river’s habitats. This creative process resulted in a deck of Oracle Cards depicting Beings that Liban meets on her travels. Each card provides the Irish as well as English name of each animal or plant and offers an interpretive phrase connected to the image on the card that supports people to use it as a learning tool.
The pack is a perfect resource for primary school teachers and others working with children on environmental and creative themes to connect to Lough Neagh, the River Bann and river systems elsewhere through image and simple narrative. The project was supported in its development by Waterways Ireland and the design & publication supported by Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin.
